week 12 Wrapup

I think I have had enough, ready to move on. It has been difficult to find the time to do justice to the programme. It takes much longer than what we were told when we started the programme . One needs uninterupted time to work through the moduled to feel comfortable to use it's applications. 90% of the work was done at home as I could not find quality time at work.

I must admid that I have learnt a lot more by following this course and have enjoyed the challenge.

Online applications and tools

Well, it was not difficult to upload a file from the desktop. That was qite easy.
It is a fantastic tool to use in the library. It is useful to share ideas with others. It is amazing to think that all this softwear - online applications are free and are available to all.

I found using google doc was easy but the others were more complicated.

I have enjoyed doing this course and have learnt quite a few things.

Mashups

I am so pleased that I was able to do the "Mashup" with very little difficulty.

I suppose it could be used effectively, especially to promote our libraries and what we offer. The use of picture are an advantage as most people are visual.

I have enjoyed this bit more than most other weeks.

Podcasting

The advantage of podcast is that it comes in different sizes and shapes therefore could be used in various settings. It could be used by individuals as well as by groups at different times. The fact that the programmes could be downloaded to any equipment such as MP3 player, ipod or to a computer makes it convenient and also it becomes portable.

The flexibility of the podcast is an asset and could be used in the public library setting with various programmes. These could be downloaded and listened or watched by our customers and shared among other libraries as well. I think it could be most useful in recording our local history, the past to be preserved for our future generations to come.

Modern technology has increased awareness in many areas, but at the same time I think there is a down side to it as well. Most young people these days lack the social skills required to lead a happy life . They are not able to interact with others as they spend too much time in front of a computer or listening to MP3 players.

Wk 8: Slamming the boards

Slamming the boards seems very intersting and I think it is a nice way of advertising your library service. I found that some of the questions asked did not have any depth in them and it is not worth trying to answer these questions. Answering the down to earth questions is worth while.

Answer board will work well with the younger generations; the gens X.Y.Z will enjoy exploring these facilities. They are not afraid of technology and are able to cope well with the constant changes. My observation of signatures and tag lines by the librarians was that they were promoting the local library and libraries in general.

Well, it has been quite educational and hopefully I will be able to use them sometime.

Tagging

I found this tool to be very interesting. What a fantastic way to keep abreast of what is happening around you!

They make it sound very easy. I have not opened an account with any of them yet, which I am hoping to do soon. I found Del.icio.us and Library Thing easy to understand. I did not find Technorati very user friendly.

It seems very interesting as one can create a shared bookmark site for a small group. I suppose this tool could be very useful in a teaching environment, when you are doing a project with a small group. This allowas you to share your ideas and receive ideas from others. Same could be true in the library environment as well.
