week 12 Wrapup

I think I have had enough, ready to move on. It has been difficult to find the time to do justice to the programme. It takes much longer than what we were told when we started the programme . One needs uninterupted time to work through the moduled to feel comfortable to use it's applications. 90% of the work was done at home as I could not find quality time at work.

I must admid that I have learnt a lot more by following this course and have enjoyed the challenge.

Online applications and tools

Well, it was not difficult to upload a file from the desktop. That was qite easy.
It is a fantastic tool to use in the library. It is useful to share ideas with others. It is amazing to think that all this softwear - online applications are free and are available to all.

I found using google doc was easy but the others were more complicated.

I have enjoyed doing this course and have learnt quite a few things.

Mashups

I am so pleased that I was able to do the "Mashup" with very little difficulty.

I suppose it could be used effectively, especially to promote our libraries and what we offer. The use of picture are an advantage as most people are visual.

I have enjoyed this bit more than most other weeks.

Podcasting

The advantage of podcast is that it comes in different sizes and shapes therefore could be used in various settings. It could be used by individuals as well as by groups at different times. The fact that the programmes could be downloaded to any equipment such as MP3 player, ipod or to a computer makes it convenient and also it becomes portable.

The flexibility of the podcast is an asset and could be used in the public library setting with various programmes. These could be downloaded and listened or watched by our customers and shared among other libraries as well. I think it could be most useful in recording our local history, the past to be preserved for our future generations to come.

Modern technology has increased awareness in many areas, but at the same time I think there is a down side to it as well. Most young people these days lack the social skills required to lead a happy life . They are not able to interact with others as they spend too much time in front of a computer or listening to MP3 players.

Wk 8: Slamming the boards

Slamming the boards seems very intersting and I think it is a nice way of advertising your library service. I found that some of the questions asked did not have any depth in them and it is not worth trying to answer these questions. Answering the down to earth questions is worth while.

Answer board will work well with the younger generations; the gens X.Y.Z will enjoy exploring these facilities. They are not afraid of technology and are able to cope well with the constant changes. My observation of signatures and tag lines by the librarians was that they were promoting the local library and libraries in general.

Well, it has been quite educational and hopefully I will be able to use them sometime.

Tagging

I found this tool to be very interesting. What a fantastic way to keep abreast of what is happening around you!

They make it sound very easy. I have not opened an account with any of them yet, which I am hoping to do soon. I found Del.icio.us and Library Thing easy to understand. I did not find Technorati very user friendly.

It seems very interesting as one can create a shared bookmark site for a small group. I suppose this tool could be very useful in a teaching environment, when you are doing a project with a small group. This allowas you to share your ideas and receive ideas from others. Same could be true in the library environment as well.

Videos Online

I did explore both and found them very interesting. The ones on the You Tube was better quality than the ones on Google Video. I searched only under libraries and found a good number of them. Mosmen library was good, but most them were very long which did not appeal to me.

I am hoping I will be successful in embedding a video with my blog. I first wanted to include my own video but that didn't work. I think I will be quite satisfied if I can embed a video from You Tube this time.

Yes this is a wonderful tool to use for library orientation, exibitions and other activities. This modern technology will appeal to our young people and we could get them involved. I would like to try it some time.

Well, my embedding of the video is not working. I shall try again tomorrow.

WIKI

Well, what can I say. Wiki did try me heaps. It took me a few weeks to get to this and I feel very upset with myself.

It has been very confusing to me. My fault, I should have asked for help much earlier and that would have spared me of my frustration . I think I have learnt my lesson and will ask for help much sooner than I have done so far.

I think WIKI could be useful with small groups where things could be monitored. I am hoping to start one with my book club members where they can post their comments and share information with each other and have fun doing so.

Prince William

I have at last got the hang of the RSS. Now I can move on.

This news was received an hour and 29 minutes ago. Britain's Prince William is due to receive his Royal Air Force pilot's wings at a graduation ceremony Friday, 11th April 2008.

His father, Prince Charles, plans to present the wings to his son and 24 other graduating students at the ceremony, being held at the Cranwell Air Force base in northern England.

RSS

I have still not mastered the RSS completely. I have managed to add two feeds but am having trouble with the rest. I will come back to it as soon as I can get some advice.

The two feeds I have completed have given me an insight into the advantages of this technology. With one click I can find the information I want rather than going through many steps to get what I want. This would be very interesting in the teaching environment to focus on the topic at hand. It could also be used in the library for the same purpose.

Flickr

This was hard work. I had to try for many days before it finally allowed me to post it. I did every thing they asked me to do but it took me ages to get to this stage. I am now happy, I got to this point. I used my puppy photos and not the pictures of the library.Once we know how to use this tool, it will be very useful in the library. We could let the patrons know of all the fun things we do in our libraries. I think it could be very useful. If you wish to see my photos click on the link Flickr: Photos

Nature

This picture was taken at a picnic spot by my daughter. The beauty of nature is facinating to me. I love to watch this picture and imagine that I am there where I can hear the waves and see the rocks, caves etc.

Puppy

I hope it works this time. I did not find it easy to do the photo sharing and the "Flickr". But I am getting there. One needs to make an effort do something worth while, and I think it is worth the effort. I am very keen to get the hang of it.

I think it is a wonderful way of advertising your business and letting people know what is available.

1st Time Blogger!!

It has certainly been a wonderful experience (both good and bad) trying to master the learning 2.0. I am enjoying the challenge, as most of these are new to me. I am really excited to learn this new tool.

Well, my blogging name is a combination of my name and our pet’s name. Our pet is a female dog and she is ever so cute. I shall try and post a photo of her if I am cleaver. You never know, I might be able to achieve these small tasks (big for me) successfully.

I am looking forward to learning this modern way of communicating with people around the world, especially the youth of this modern era. Finding time to accomplish these is another matter to reckon with. I often wish that there was more than 24 hours in a day to be able to finish all the things I would like to do. I suppose even if there was more than 24 hours in a day one will not be able to fit all in. The modern day life is such, one has little or no time for leisure or pleasure. Oh how sad!!
